Windows Server 2003

An organization or a company requires interaction within the premises which can be done through the use of phones or computer systems. As the use of phone is hectic and confusing in cases where on every minute the whole information is needed on a certain topic so the use of internet on PCs is the best and the most world wide option. Server systems are usually the operating systems in the computer systems or the company has some other server device like Local Area Network (LAN) connection for communication within the company.A server computer connects further computers or electronic appliances mutually like a chain through the internet, such as, when user enters a wants to share some relevant mail so that every one should get a look at it then the server is most helpful. A lot of servers are committed systems like web servers, print servers, and database server and ERP system servers in case of large businesses. Therefore Microsoft introduced an operating system for the same cause named Windows Server which had different editions with current being Window Server 2008 (William & Walla, 2003).However, this paper would talk about the features of Windows Server 2003 and its distinguishing and advanced features from Windows Server 2000.Windows Server 2003:Windows Server 2003 which was furthermore called Win2K3 is an operating system launched on April 23, 2003 while on December 6, 2005 its reorganized edition Windows Server 2003 R2 came into play. It was recognized by many users at a high rate due to its more efficient and better performance than Windows Server 2000. In this version many new features were added which made it quite distinguished from the previous version of server operating systems due to the fact that this version was released after Windows XP was already running all over the world so due to the satisfaction and remarks on Windows XP the Windows Server 2003 was also appreciated. Furthermore, it had an area name server that allowed active registration of Internet Protocol addresses, this version can work on at least 64 processors, while the requirement of RAM is more than 512GB, while on the other hand these requirements might get elevated during installation and after wards after the installed programs are completed (Stanek, 2004).New and Improved Features:The new features that got added into this operating system included more advance 6th version of Internet Information Services (IIS), improved defense than earlier editions prominently because of an included firewall system which blocks almost all negative services by default, messaging line up has some considerable improvements that were lacking in Windows Server 2000. Also, the feature of administering the server tool permits the user or the manager to decide the kind of results the server should supply in order to perform a task at a high speed (Hunt & Bragg, 2005).There is also an improvement in the confederacy strategy management and supervision so that all the users can keep in touchy and know what the other user is presenting; moreover this version has the feature of providing backup method to bring back lost files which of course is a big help in cases where system crashing results in data lost. It also has an enhanced disk administration and hardware-support “watchdog timer” that has a capability of restarting the system if it does not responds in timely manner and keeps the files and data safe from getting lost (Stanek, 2004).Why the Windows Server 2003 can replace Windows Server 2000?After its launch, some of the users who were satisfied with the performance of Windows Server 2000 predicted of failure of Windows Server 2003 but it came and took the server Windows Server 200 OS by storm due to the major differences it had with Windows 2000 some of which are also mentioned above. It replaced Windows Server 200 because 2003 has an XP-like interface also revolutionizes grouping through the default clustering software, while before in 2000 version the Windows Clustering had to be installed by the user. Moreover, the security factors are much prominent and better in 2003 version and are said to be like the Linux OS, safety requirement is very necessary in server technology as the data sharing is done which may content some confidential information (Hunt & Bragg, 2005).Almost 620 cluster strategies could be done in Windows 2000 while in 2003 it has rose to 720 making it more secure also in 2000 Server version the user does not have the right to rename a domain while this is possible in 2003 Server’s version. Furthermore, 2000 contains fundamental perception of Distributed File Systems (DFS) which comprises of distinct roots while 2003 comes with Superior DFS support through multiple roots. While, the most prominent feature is said to be the ability to create 1 billion users in 2003 Server version, which previously was 1 Million in the 2000 Server version (William & Walla, 2003)Conclusion:So, this server operating system got a lot of appreciation by its users on many new features that were introduced in it and especially the look of the system which compared a lot to the Windows XP operating system. The security, the administration policies and the server creating characteristics truly made it an outclass operating system. Succeeded by the 2008 Server version, the technology gets better and better every time including the interface which makes the eyes of the user pleasant and new features makes it fun to work on the certain operating system.
